Why the smell comes back
Because most of the accident is somewhere your cleaner never reached. Urine passes straight through the pile, soaks into the cotton foundation, and wicks out along the backing under the rug.
As it dries it leaves behind alkaline crystals — urine salts — locked in the base of the weave. They sit there quietly until humidity draws moisture back in, and then, especially in a damp Greenacres summer, they release the smell all over again. Dabbing the top does nothing to them.
You can’t sponge out a problem that lives in the foundation of the rug.
The only thing that clears those salts is water moving all the way through the rug and carrying them out — a full flush, not a spot treatment.
What the soak reaches

The honest answer
We’ll give you the straight version rather than an easy one. In most cases a full submersion clears the odor completely and the rug comes home fresh. That is the usual result, and it is why the soak beats any surface treatment.
But we won’t make a promise we can’t keep. A large accident left for months, repeated soakings in the same spot, or urine that has already discolored the dyes can leave a rug that improves greatly without recovering every trace. Heavy contamination can also weaken the foundation, which is a repair question, not just a cleaning one.
